VIS is updated by the Holy See Press Office, a centrally located office that publishes the activities of the Holy Father. It is typically updated a few times a day (usually five new entries are available on the feed, with other stories archived).

The blog offers links to the official Vatican YouTube channel in addition to the official Vatican Twitter feed. Other than these links, the website essentially only offers text based news releases concerning Pope Benedict XVI's appearances, trips, and audiences.
VIS is a credible news site because it is the official information service for all things concerning the Pope and the happenings around Vatican City. The Vatican Information Service actually began transmitting news in 1991. The blog entries date back as early as 1999. The beauty of this site is that the information is available to subscribers before it is sent to mainstream media outlets.
With the advent of Web 2.0 technologies, VIS is another way that the Church has taken a special interest in keeping Catholics worldwide continually informed.
